1. The Short Version
Home Inventory is a local-first utility app. Everything you enter is stored in a private database on your device. The app has no account, no sign-in, no cloud sync and no server of ours that holds your records. This policy explains what stays on the device, what the two outside services inside the free app receive, and how to delete everything. It is written to meet the GDPR, South Africa's POPIA, the CCPA and the Google Play User Data policy.
Your home inventory data never leaves this device. When online, the app fetches ad creatives and our app catalogue from our server and reports anonymous view/click counts; these requests contain no personal data and nothing about your home inventory data.
2. What Stays on Your Device
Your records: rooms, items, categories, brands, serial numbers, purchase dates, notes and replacement values you type. They live in the app's private storage and are never sent to us.
No name, email or contact details: the app never asks who you are.
No location permission: the app does not ask for GPS or any other device location.
Reminders: optional notifications are scheduled on the device itself through the operating system's alarm and notification services (Android or iOS). Quiet hours are a setting stored with your records.
Backups: Export writes a JSON file to a folder on your device (or, on iPhone, a location you pick in the Files app) only when you tap it. Import reads that file back. Neither touches the network.
3. Advertising and the App Catalogue
The free app shows a small banner advert on the home screen and, at most once every 90 seconds after you leave Settings, a full-screen advert. Adverts are delivered by Google AdMob. To deliver and measure them, the AdMob software inside the app automatically sends the following to Google, encrypted in transit:
IP address, which may be used to estimate the general area the device is in (such as country or city).
App interactions, such as the app being opened and an advert being shown or tapped.
Diagnostic information about how the app and the advertising software are performing.
Device identifiers, including the Android advertising ID, which Google may use to show adverts relevant to you. You can reset or delete the advertising ID at any time in Android's Settings → Privacy → Ads; the app will then receive non-personalised adverts. On iPhone the app never asks for permission to track you, so Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA) is not available to it and adverts there are not personalised using it.
Separately, when the device is online the app fetches a small catalogue file from our own server. It contains the house adverts for our other apps and nothing else. The app also sends our server a single request with aggregate counts of how many times those house adverts were viewed or tapped. That request carries no identifier, no account and nothing from your records; our server sees your IP address in the way any web server does and does not store it against a profile.
4. Sharing
We do not sell personal information and we hold none of your records to share. The only outside party that receives data from the app is Google, through the advertising software described in section 3.
5. Your Choices & Deleting Data
Delete everything: clear the app's data in Android settings, or delete the app on iPhone. Every record the app stored is on the device and is removed with it. Any backup you exported stays where you saved it until you delete that file.
Reminders: switch them off in the app's notification settings on Android or iPhone.
Adverts: on Android, reset or delete the advertising ID in privacy settings to stop personalised adverts. On iPhone the app does not use the advertising identifier.
Requests: we hold no personal information about you, so there is nothing for us to look up, correct or delete on our side. If you have a question about this policy, or about information Google may hold, write to the address below and we will help.
6. Children
Home Inventory is a general-audience utility intended for adults. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
7. Changes to This Policy
If the app changes in a way that affects privacy, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change before that version is released.
